Madison’s Baby Mobile

So if you know me or have been following my post you should know that Jamie and I have a little girl, Madison, on the way.  Well every little girl needs a baby mobile to “Ooo” and “Ahh” as they put themselves to sleep. HA! Fat chance! Not anytime soon at least. Any parent knows that a newborn will wait until your just getting good and asleep and then let out the most awful, blood curdling scream you have ever heard.  This being our second, I have an idea what to expect. Not to scare off those that haven’t made the leap yet. (It’s totally worth it!)

Nevertheless, every little princess does need a mobile, and below are the instructions on how we made Maddie’s DIY baby mobile.

Tools Required:

Materials:

DIY Baby Mobile Step 1

Step 1: Tie the wire around a bucket

Step 1:

Select a cylindrical size object in which you want your mobile diameter to be. We chose to use this blue bucket as our mobile size. The next step is to take the aluminum craft wire and wrap it tightly around the object, do not cut the wire just yet.

Step 2: Remove wire and tie as shown

Step 2:

Lift up to remove the wire, which will now nicely shaped into a perfect circle.  Using your pliers wrap the wire around itself creating a tie holding the circle together, using the wire cutters clip off the remaining wire. Do not worry about making this part look perfect… it will be covered anyway so there is no need for perfection!

Step 3: Place ribbon as shown

Step 3: Place ribbon as shown

Step 3:

To make the tying the ribbon easier, loosely place the wire circle back onto the object you used to form it. Now we can being adding out ribbon. Take the 2 ft’ long section of ribbon and fold in half and lay on the table so that the same side of the ribbon is facing up, some ribbon will have a pattern or design so you will want the “pretty side” (as my wide would say) facing up. Take the ribbon and place it downwards, with the “pretty side” towards the bucket.

Step 4: Place the ends into the loop as shown

Step 4a: Place the ends into the loop as shown

Step 5: Tighten knot as shown

Step 4b: Tighten knot as shown

Step 4:

Take the two tails of the ribbon and pull them through the loop and pull them tight, this will create your knot.

Step 6: Repeat steps 2-4 for all the other ribbon

Step 5: Repeat steps 2-4 for all the other ribbon

Step 5:

Repeat steps 2 – 4 with the remaining ribbon sections, alternating as you go. Make sure to tie enough ribbons to cover the entire wire. How much ribbon you say? Well that would depend on how big your mobile is but ribbon is cheap so buy a bunch, its okay to have leftovers.

Step 6:

The last step is to create a way to hang the mobile. For this I used a button and clear fishing line.  First, I tied three pieces of fishing line to the mobile (equal distance apart). Then, I cut them at equal lengths and tied them all to an old button. From there I tied another piece of fishing line from the button to a hook that I screwed in the ceiling.
