I got in contact with Kreg customer service and they assured me the drill bit was defective and should not have worn so quickly. They are sending me replacement bit and driver. I increased my rating to 5 stars for a quality product and outstanding Customer Service.

Bought this to build Elevated Planters using 2x redwood. Although drilling pocket holes may be time consuming Vs. just overlapping the joint and using glue/screws, it's definitely worth the time for a clean look.
I've used the standard Kreg Jig on 3/4 plywood and boards and have been happy with its performance. But there's no way it would work for 2x material, not well anyways. The HD version allowed for bigger holes that, when combined with the KREG HD Screws Kreg Tool Company SML-C2X250-125 HD Pocket Hole Screws 125 CT , makes for a strong connection. The pocket holes and HD screws really held well against a redwood 4x4.
Overall I'm satisfied with the kit and will use it again on future projects. However I'm concerned it won't last too long. I discounted a star (and was close to two) because of the longevity of the kit. The drill bit works well, but after approx 80 holes it started screeching LOUD inside the jig –enough to need to wear hearing protection. The #3 square bit worked well on my Hitachi impact driver. However after about 80 Kreg HD Screws it started rounding out enough to jump around more. It would be nice to be able to purchase another, but can't seem to find the exact one on amazon.

If you're new to Kreg, there are a few details to be aware of – only the Heavy Duty (HD) screws work with this HD jig; the jig just pre-drills the holes in a single piece of wood, allowing the screw to drive through the last 3/8" and into the second piece, so be sure to set it up so you don't drill all the way through accidentally; the face clamp is pretty darn useful; a square can really help with clamping pieces at right angles, which matters a lot.
If you're new to woodworking generally, there are of course a billion more tips for better outcomes. Some that I wish I knew sooner: trim every piece of lumber to ensure you're working with right angles; measure and re-measure; cut pieces as you need them, not all at once, to mitigate costly math errors; keep a backup battery charging; stain or paint after assembly, not before when you're going to drill through the lacquer and gum things up or scratch the finish.
I usually despise closed systems like this, but I have to say I'm won over by the results.
I needed a large flat surface to assemble the gates - my floor was not so [flat] - so there could have been a little improvement in the co-planar alignment of the frame -- though the HD system made this fast and easy. I used the Kreg 1/4" hex quick-change chuck with the HD drill and square drive bit, and had no reliability issues with any of these tools. Great stuff.
Photo shows the gates prior to painting & hardware mounting: (LEFT: about 5' wide ; RIGHT 3' wide). The frames were assembled with the Kreg HD-system. Paid for all of this stuff out-of-pocket. Time will tell how this holds up - but properly weatherproofed, I think it will go easily 10 years.

You do need to make sure you have room for the drill and the extra long bit in your design.
I had to do some re-engineering on the fly from my original design but everything worked out well.
Very string joints, especially using three screws per 2 x 6.
