The plans, tutorials, videos, photos, and other content on this site (collectively, the “Content”) are provided by Rogue Engineer LLC for educational and informational purposes only. By using any of our Content, you acknowledge and agree to the terms of this Disclaimer.

DIY at your own risk

Do-it-yourself projects involve real physical risks, including but not limited to:

  • Cuts, lacerations, and amputations from saws, blades, drills, and edged tools
  • Burns from hot surfaces, friction, or chemical exposure
  • Eye injuries from flying debris, dust, or chemical splashes
  • Respiratory damage from sawdust, finishing fumes, or solvents
  • Hearing damage from loud power tools
  • Falls from ladders, scaffolding, or work surfaces
  • Electric shock or electrocution
  • Crush injuries from heavy materials
  • Musculoskeletal strain
  • Fire from sparks, sanding, finishing materials, or hot tools
  • Property damage from structural failure, water intrusion, or improperly installed components

You are responsible for evaluating these risks and using appropriate caution before, during, and after every project.

Your responsibilities

By following any plan, tutorial, video, or instruction from this site, you agree that:

  1. You assume all risk for your own physical safety and the safety of anyone present during your project.
  2. You will use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times — including but not limited to safety glasses, hearing protection, dust masks or respirators, gloves, and closed-toe footwear.
  3. You will follow all manufacturer instructions and safety warnings for the tools, machines, and materials you use.
  4. You are responsible for compliance with all applicable building codes, electrical codes, plumbing codes, permits, HOA rules, and other local regulations for your project’s location.
  5. You possess the necessary skill level to safely complete the project, or you will stop and obtain professional assistance when you do not.
  6. You will consult licensed professionals — engineers, electricians, plumbers, building inspectors, etc. — for any project component that requires professional expertise, especially anything structural, electrical, plumbing, or HVAC-related.

Plans are not engineered structural documents

Our plans and tutorials are not engineering documents and have not been reviewed or certified by a licensed structural engineer. They reflect our personal experience building these projects in our own shop and yard. They are intended as a starting point for your own work — not as a substitute for professional structural, electrical, or building design.

If you intend to build anything load-bearing, anything that will support people (decks, lofts, stairs, climbing structures, etc.), anything attached to your home’s structure, or anything that interacts with your electrical, plumbing, or HVAC systems, consult a licensed professional in your jurisdiction before you build.

No warranty

The Content is provided “as is” without warranty of any kind. We make no representations or warranties — express, implied, or statutory — regarding the accuracy, completeness, reliability, fitness for a particular purpose, safety, or non-infringement of the Content.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Rogue Engineer LLC, Jamison Rantz, and any of our employees, contributors, partners, or affiliates shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, special, exemplary, or punitive damages — including but not limited to bodily injury, property damage, lost profits, lost data, emotional distress, or business interruption — arising from or related to your use of the Content, regardless of the legal theory (contract, tort, strict liability, or otherwise), and even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.

If applicable law in your jurisdiction does not allow the disclaimer of certain warranties or the limitation of certain damages, those portions of this Disclaimer will not apply to you, but the remainder of the Disclaimer will remain in full force.

Materials, tools, and recommendations

Where we recommend specific tools, materials, finishes, or vendors, those recommendations reflect our own experience. Tool and material safety is the responsibility of the manufacturer; you should read and follow all manufacturer instructions and safety warnings. We do not warrant any third-party product or service.
