Quick answer: This easy outdoor table seats 10 people, builds in a few hours for under $200, and needs just a drill, a saw, and a Kreg XL pocket hole jig — four 2×12s make the top, 4×4s and 2×4s make the base. We built it on a trip to my parents’ place in Florida so the whole family could finally eat at one table. Free plans below; the printable PDF is $5. Designed, built, and documented by Jamison Rantz.

Easy 10-person outdoor table on the Florida patio set for a family dinner

Recently we took a trip down to my parents’ house in Florida, and one thing missing from the back patio was a table big enough to seat the entire family — mine, my brother’s, and my parents. That’s 10 seats. I didn’t have much time or a workshop, so we kept it simple. Even though this table took a few hours and under $200, we’ve already gotten a ton of enjoyment out of it, and it’ll be the family gathering spot for years. If you want the beefier showpiece version, check out the PB-inspired outdoor table.

After cutting the boards down, this is the time to apply your finish — it’s untreated lumber headed outdoors, so we used Behr’s tintable semi-transparent deck stain in Wood Chip.

How to build an easy outdoor table for 10

Assemble the Base

The base is 4×4 legs joined by 2×4 aprons and stretchers, all with Kreg XL pocket holes and 2½″ XL pocket screws — build the two end frames first, then connect them with the long rails per the diagram.

Attach the Top

The top is the four 2×12s screwed down to the base per the diagram. I actually built this top with no gaps, but I wish I’d left ¼″ between the boards for drainage. I also opted to screw the top in place with the table upright — we only had two people, and this thing is an absolute beast once assembled.

I see this table is being used in a covered porch. Would it be a good candidate for an uncovered deck? Would the kiln dried wood hold up to exposure?

Think it’s appropriate to build this but have more than 2″ overhang on the short ends of the table? We have bench seating and if the table legs are too close to the end then it’ll be difficult to scoot into the bench.
