Description

Easy 10 person outdoor table plans: four 2x12s on a 4×4 base

I designed this table on a trip to my parents’ place in Florida. Their patio needed one table that could seat my family, my brother’s and my parents, all ten of us, and I didn’t have a shop or much time. So I kept it simple: four 2x12s make the top, and 4×4 legs with 2×4 aprons and stretchers make the base, all joined with XL pocket screws. It’s about a day of work with a drill, a saw and a pocket hole jig, and it’s been the family gathering spot ever since.

Common questions

Can it live outside? Yes, with a finish. The lumber is kiln-dried, not treated, so stain it. I stained every board right after cutting, before assembly, so every face got covered.

Should the top boards be gapped? Yes. I built mine tight and wish I’d left 1/4″ between the 2x12s so rain drains off.

Is there a smaller version? Not of this one. If 119″ is too much table, my Outdoor Table plans come in 4, 6, 8 and 10 person lengths.
