DIY Outdoor Loveseat Plans - Rogue Engineer 1 (1)

A while back we built and stained a deck for Jamie’s brother and sister-in-law. When we were done we opted to give them the outdoor arm chairs we had just built as well as make a few more pieces to complete the set. The outdoor arm chairs were so well received that we felt it was a good idea to create a loveseat to match. We think this set turned out great and since it’s made out of cedar it will be around for a while! Enjoy the plans and happy building!

Love this very much and is exactly what we are looking for. I just checked to see if you could even find anything of this kind of quality at HD or Pier 1, etc… and really nothing. All this wicker BS. I think we will wait for some end of season sales and get the cushions and then over the winter between some commission projects work on this. Very well done!

You should be able to find some good deals on cushions at the end of the season. Happy building and can’t wait to see how these turn out

Just finished this sofa. Put three coats of poly/stain on with sanding in between. Thank you so much for the plans. Chairs and table to follow.

What size are the cushions for this loveseat?

Hi, I have decided to build the loveseat and am excited to get started. There are two parts in the plan that make me nervouse. 1st – Do the back rest planks attach to the bottom (seat) AND the top back frame piece. I see the pocket holes for the bottom seat attachment but I do not see it for the top. I presume it must attach via pocket hole for both. 2nd – Do the 5% cuts for the 29″ 5/8 boards have the same or opposite 5degree cut? I hope this makes sense. I could just get started and figure it out trial and error but I prefer to have a strong understanding before I begin. Thank you so much.

Going to be building the loveseat and coffee table this weekend. I am curious what you did to finish the wood to give it the natural wood look while also protecting the wood?

Was going stir crazy with the stay at home order. Finished this in a weekend. Dark stain with 2 coats of poly. Calling me an amateur woodworker would be generous. The angled cuts messed me up. All in all it turned out nice. Thanks for the plans. https://uploads.disquscdn.c

For outdoor furniture like this, do you use the regular 1x cedar boards that are around $1/foot, or the kiln dried boards that are closer to $2/foot?

The height of this build is quite low even for my tiny wife. Has anyone done anything to make it taller?

Just finished this build! Just a note that the 3rd 2’x4’x29 5/8″ that runs along the bottom center also has to be cut to 5 degrees on each end to match the angle of the side pieces. I didn’t see that on the cut list and it confused me for a few minutes…but I am very much an amateur so maybe I just missed something!

Overall a super satisfying project and GREAT plans – sanded and stained the whole thing darker and now I just need some cushions!
